A full-power semi-satellite of CBS affiliate KVAL-13 in Eugene-Springfield, Ore., that serves the North Bend region of coastal Oregon has gotten the OK to shift its facility to digital channel 34.
That upgrade, which led to a public comment period, has now been granted by the FCC.
It’s a win for KCBY-11 in Coos Bay, Ore., owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Substituting channel 34 for VHF channel 11 in the digital era brings over-the-air viewers a better signal, and with no comments received in response to a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking issued by the FCC, the Video Division of its Media Bureau terminated its proceeding and gave the Sinclair-owned station the OK to make the upgrade.
Once the channel change is made, “all but 392 persons” will be able to receive KCBY, a number Sinclair says is de minimis. More importantly, the proposed change to channel 34 will result in a predicted increase in service to more than 11,000 persons, based on an engineering statement provided by Sinclair to the FCC.
