WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-Ore.) has confirmed the departure of the group’s Staff Director for a role in the private sector.
Mike Bloomquist has departed.
This means Deputy Staff Director and E&C veteran Ryan Long will succeed Bloomquist as Staff Director for Committee Republicans.
“Mike has been invaluable to the committee,” Walden said. “He is a trusted counselor, a sought-after mentor and a go-to resource for members – both on and off the committee. He has led a talented team and helped shepherd major legislation through the House of Representatives that has undoubtedly improved the lives of Americans through his time as a public servant. I wish him the best in his new endeavor.”
Bloomquist served as Staff Director for Energy and Commerce Republicans during the 115th and 116th Congresses. He previously served as the committee Deputy Staff Director, General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, as well as General Counsel to the 2011 Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction.
Walden added that Long’s experience and expertise “will continue to serve us well as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee is better for having staff like Mike and Ryan, and I look forward to finishing this Congress strong under Ryan’s leadership.”
Long served as Deputy Staff Director for Energy and Commerce Republicans in the 115th and 116th Congresses.
