The E.W. Scripps Company has promoted Sean McGarvy to Senior Director of Digital News and Content Strategy. Starting June 16, McGarvy will lead the strategic direction for news content across Scripps News Group’s digital platforms, both national and local.
McGarvy’s nearly three-decade career in broadcast journalism includes seven Edward R. Murrow Awards and 10 regional Emmy Awards. He is a past director at large for RTDNA/RTDNF and has served on the board of the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
McGarvy will be responsible for aligning editorial efforts across Scripps News and its network of more than 60 local stations, building on his previous role as senior director of local news strategy, which he has held since April 2020.
In that capacity, McGarvy worked directly with Scripps’ local markets to implement content initiatives and increase community connection. His prior experience also includes stints as news director at WEWS in Cleveland and assistant news director at KMGH in Denver, both ABC affiliates owned by Scripps.
Scripps Executive Vice President of Media Broadcast Operations Dean Littleton remarked, “Sean is a trusted news leader who understands our newsrooms and our vision to deliver exceptional journalism on every platform. This new role recognizes the critical importance of digital and streaming to meet a growing number of consumers where they are. Sean has the experience, passion, and vision to lead a cohesive, consumer-centric approach to our digital news strategy.”
