Saga Chief’s Digital Stalking Woes Color Solid Q2 Story

Higher revenue growth but a bit of a net income dip. That’s the quick summation of Saga Communications‘ Q2 2018 earnings report, but there’s more to the story to share.


In short, year-over-year results aren’t comparable thanks to two big complexion-changing deals in September 2017. This requires a look at Saga on a same-station basis. Doing so paints a portrait of flat Q2 net revenue while operating income inched forward.

Of course, Saga President/CEO Ed Christian isn’t one to stick to speaking about financials and visibility on his company’s quarterly earnings calls. This time around, he chastised digital media for its swarm of ads for one brand he loves while hinting that two possible new deals are being vetted.
