Safe & Sound Tour Coming to School Near You

PioneerAVHPioneer Electronics and retailers are partnering on a school program to discourage texting while driving among teens.

The consumer electronics company and Harris poll found that 44% of smartphone owners text while driving and 86% of survey participants said they’ve seen others do it behind the wheel.

Called the Safe & Sound Tour, Pioneer will visit 50 high schools across the country to help show there’s a smarter and safer way to use smartphones in the car.

The company will showcase its in-dash technologies, including its latest NEX models that are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible, to teens and parents at varsity football and basketball home games. Pioneer will also offer families in attendance an opportunity to receive discounted products and/or free basic installations offered by the local retailer and make cash contributions to participating schools.

The NEX series uses a simple and intuitive interface to provide navigation, communications and music combined with voice actions for minimized distraction. Three models, the AVIC-8100NEX, AVIC-7100NEX, and AVH-4100NEX, include HD Radio. The user can configure the interface so that AM/FM and HD Radio are on the first screen that’s displayed.

RBR+TVBR observation: To me, this seems like a good opportunity for radio stations to join-in and promote the fact that their local stations air the programming that teen drivers (and their parents) can hear.
