She most recently served as VP/GM of FOX affiliate KOKI-23 and MyNetwork TV sibling KMYT-41 in Tulsa, stations formerly owned by Cox Media Group and sold in August 2022 to Imagicomm Communications.
Now, she is joining Nexstar Media Group, and will now serve as VP/GM of its Sacramento broadcasting and digital operations.
Cathy Gunther is now at the helm of KTXL-TV “FOX40,” and reports to SVP/Regional Manager Matthew Rosenfeld.
Gunther joined KOKI and KMYT in 2014 as Director of Sales, rising to her most recent role in 2017. Her Nexstar post marks a return to the Golden State from Oklahoma, as she served from 2011-2014 as Local Sales Manager and New Business Development Manager
at KTVU-2, the FOX affiliate in San Francisco. Before that, Gunther held multiple management, sales and digital roles for KCOY-12 and KKFX-11 in the San Luis Obispo-Santa Maria-Santa Barbara, Calif., DMA.
“Cathy is an exceptional broadcast and sales executive and has delivered impressive results wherever she has worked for more than 20 years,” said Rosenfeld. “I am confident that her vast sales expertise, proven broadcast and digital leadership and commitment to localism will be of great benefit to our Sacramento operations, elevate FOX40’s revenue and ratings, and strengthen Nexstar’s overall footprint across the west coast.”
Gunther commented, “I’m thrilled to be joining Nexstar’s team in Sacramento and grateful for this opportunity. Nexstar has a deep commitment to local content and to serving its viewers, advertisers, and the communities in which it is located, and I couldn’t be more proud to join the FOX40 team. I am confident that my combination of experience, skills and passion for delivering results will be valuable as we chart future success for the station’s broadcast and digital operations.”
Gunther is an active participant in media industry-related organizations, serving for many years as a member of the board of the Oklahoma Broadcasters Association and participating in the National Association of Broadcasters State Leadership Conference.
