The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) and the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) announced last year that they planned to begin holding a joint conference, beginning in 2011. Those plans have now been finalized.

RTDNA and SPJ will join forces to create the “Excellence in Journalism: 2011” conference in New Orleans running September 25-28, 2011. They say it will be “the largest, most important national journalism conference of the year.”

“This is an extraordinary opportunity, not only for RTDNA and SPJ to team up, but for the entire journalism world to reap the benefits,” said Kevin Benz, RTDNA’s chair-elect and convention-planning chair. “We’re working hard to bring journalists the best conference around.”

“This collaboration between SPJ and RTDNA is unparalleled in the journalism community and it makes perfect sense,” said SPJ President Kevin Z. Smith. “We are excited at the prospects of what this means for our members and where this can lead both organizations. Sharing our resources and creating the ultimate conference means attendees will enjoy the best training, networking and social opportunities of the year.”
