WRNI-AM is now free of Boston University and its WBUR-FM. Of course, that means it is also free of funding from WBUR – in fact, Rhode Island Public Radio will pay $2M to BU to full acquire the AM over the course of the next ten years. Combined with full state coverage, thanks to its WRNI-FM, RIPR is expecting to enjoy its newfound independence.
