RCN Corporation and ION Media Networks announced an affiliation agreement regarding distribution of qubo, the TV and online entertainment service for children.  As part of the agreement, RCN launched qubo on its Chicago system.

"We are pleased to announce our latest affiliation agreement and are delighted by RCN’s commitment to offer their subscribers in Chicago the very best in children’s programming,” said Steve Friedman, President, ION Media Networks Distribution.  “This agreement reinforces the value of qubo to its core audience, and represents yet another step in fulfilling our multi-platform network strategy.”

RCN launched qubo as part of its steps to reclaim analog channels by converting all of its programming to digital, which began in late January.

qubo is a groundbreaking, bilingual, multi-platform entertainment destination for children that champions literacy and positive values through entertainment.  qubo celebrates the unlimited possibilities of a child’s imagination.  The qubo Channel features an expanded line-up of popular children’s programming, including Nelvana’s “Pecola,” Big Idea’s “Veggie Tales,” NBC Universal’s “Boo!,”  Classic Media’s “Theodore Tugboat” and Scholastic’s “Dragon,” among others.  qubo was formed in 2006 by an unprecedented alliance of leading distribution partners and content players in children’s television, including Scholastic, ION Media Networks, NBC Universal, Corus Entertainment and Classic Media.
