CORNING, NEW YORK — Just two weeks into 2017, the unsteady relationship between broadcast television network affiliates and service providers such as DirecTV and Frontier Communications has captured headlines across the U.S. At the same time, viewer ire has risen, with many in Portland, Ore., and Seattle ready to cancel their Frontier cable packages as the local ABC affiliates entered their third week of blackout status in the two markets.

With network-affiliate relations more strained than ever, it’s noteworthy to see the rise of a brand-new broadcast TV operator.

This still unnamed company is led by local broadcaster Bill Christian and Mike Reed, President/CEO of Waypoint Media, the Meridian, Miss.-based management company that oversees broadcast operations and does outside consulting work in the broadcast industry.
