Raycom completes TV buy

Last week the FCC approved a temporary waiver to allow television group Raycom to hold two licenses in Richmond VA. With that bit of business squared away, Raycom was able to finish its deal to acquire stations in Richmond, Charlotte NC and Charleston SC from Liberty Financial Group. The 583M deal was for WBTV-TV Charlotte NC (CBS/3); WCSC-TV Charleston SC (CBS/5); and WWBT-TV Richmond VA (NBC/12). In Richmond, Raycom will hang onto the new NBC affiliate, and has been granted six months to find a buyer for its own WTVR-TV CBS/6. Raycom promised that it will keep the Richmond stations completely separate for the duration of the dual ownership period, and testified that it already has at least four nibbles from prospective buyers for WTVR.
