Radio One Agrees To Sell ‘Mix’ Homes In Charlotte

On March 18, 1997, the WLNK call letters appeared in Charlotte for the first time, as a station that had been WWSN following the discontinuation of those calls at a Dayton FM. Until December 11, 2025, WLNK was at 107.9 MHz — a Class C FM now sporting the heritage WBT-FM calls and airing its signature spoken word format.

The WLNK call letters moved to a Class A FM southeast of downtown, while a simulcast was added to a Class C3 FM serving Rock Hill and communities in South Carolina that are within the Charlotte market. Now, Urban One unit Radio One is selling those stations, with a possible new home for WLNK in the works.

WLNK-FM 100.9 in Indian Trail, N.C., is being sold to Bible Broadcast Network.

It marks a Charlotte DMA improvement for BBN, as it presently uses WYFQ-FM in Wadesboro, N.C., to reach the market from the far east, and as such cannot reach Gastonia. With WLNK, Gastonia is within the “distant” signal contour but largely accessible in cars. The same can be said for Kannapolis, to the north.

BBN is paying $4.2 million for WLNK; a 10% escrow deposit has been made to Tideline Partners LLC, the media brokerage firm led by Greg Guy. He represented Radio One in this deal.

While BBN is purchasing WLNK, simulcast partner WMXG-FM 99.3 in Chester, S.C.

Guy’s Tideline Partners also brokered the sale of that property on behalf of Radio One, and the buyer for this south-of-Charlotte FM is the Augusta Radio Fellowship Institute — licensee of stations operating under the “Good News Network” brand.

A $725,000 purchase price has been agreed to, of which $50,000 has been allocated to real property and the remainder to the licenses. A $72,500 escrow deposit is being held by Tideline Partners LLC.

What’s next for Radio One and the WLNK call letters? That’s what some may be wondering, as Urban One will be retaining the call sign. The company’s other stations aside from heritage News/Talk WBT are Sports Talk WFNZ-FM, Adult R&B WOSF-FM, and Black Gospel WOSF-FM HD2 “Praise 102.5.”
