Saul Levine’s Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters is selling one FM and donating another. The transaction is interesting because one of the assets is a former Mapleton Communications station.
KBOQ-FM is licensed to Seaside and KMZT-FM is licensed to Big Sur — both in California.
The buyer is the University of Southern California, which is paying $475,000 for KBOQ. The school was to make a $23,750 deposit and pay the balance at closing.
Levine paid $200,000 in cash for KBOQ in September 2014, adding to its stable that includes KMZT(AM), Beverly Hills, KNRY-AM Monterey, KYZZ-FM, Salinas, KKGO-FM, Los Angeles and KIDD(AM), Monterey. Mount Wilson is donating KMZT to the university and notifying the IRS for its tax write-off.
The school, in the meantime, will ask the FCC to approve converting both stations to non-commercial status. It wants to use KMZT to relay KUSC, Los Angeles.
KBOQ is a Class A FM with an ERP of 1,500 watts @ 653’ HAAT; it operates on 103.9 MHz.
KMZT is also a Class A FM. The station has an ERP of 1,000 watts @ -363’ HAAT; it operates on 95.9 MHz.
