WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Digital Opportunity Tour is waiting to take Pai away.

OK, it may not be as catchy as a Lennon-McCartney tune, but the FCC Chairman is indeed embarking on a tour that sees him hopscotch across the state of Oklahoma to see his agency’s efforts in action.

This includes his first-hand look of how one TV station is moving forward with the post-spectrum auction repack process.

Wednesday (5/22) saw Pai travel to the cities of Tulsa, Taft, and Okmulgee.

His agenda includes, first and foremost, a visit to an unnamed TV station preparing to change frequencies following the broadcast incentive auction. For security reasons, the FCC did not close the call letters of the station Pai visited today.

Pai’s Wednesday agenda also include a stop a correctional facility dealing with the problem of contraband cellphones, and a visit to an electric cooperative that will use support from the FCC’s Connect America Fund to deliver broadband to rural Oklahomans.

On Thursday (May 23), Pai will visit Chickasaw Nation in Ada and meet with Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter in Oklahoma City.

Since becoming Chairman, Pai has traveled across the country to discuss how to increase broadband deployment and extend digital opportunity to all Americans, promoting job creation and economic growth.

Chairman Pai has made bridging the digital divide the top priority of the FCC since being designated Chairman in 2017, and the Commission is working to expand broadband deployment in rural America.  The Chairman has visited big cities and small towns across the country, making stops in numerous states.

This is his first visit to Oklahoma as FCC Chairman and puts him close to Pittsburg, Kansas, his childhood home, just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
