Operator transitioning to owner of NC AM

WGNC-AM is licensed to Gastonia NC, making it a station in good standing in the Charlotte-Gastonia NC-Rock Hill SC Arbitron market. It’s been operated in an LMA since 5/13/09, and now the LMAing party is buying it.

The buyer is Scott Neisler, under the licensee name SN Radio LLC, and he figures to be very much a hands-on owner. He’s listed on the station’s website as both an air talent and an engineer.

The seller is D. Mark Boyd III’s HRN Radio LLC. The price tag is $350K — $100K is a credit for money paid under the LMA, along with a $65K deposit and a $185K escrow deposit to be released to the seller at closing.

The terms of the 2009 LMA called for an initial payment of $12.5K, followed by monthly paymets of $5K.

The station may be part of the Charlotte market, but its 1 kW-U 1450 kHz signal is basically local to Gastonia, which is located to the west of the market’s urban hub. The station uses a News-Talk-Sports format, mixing local programming with syndicated fare from Glenn Beck and Dave Ramsey.
