ONE Media to Host ATSC 3.0 Datacasting Webinar Series

0

ONE Media 3.0, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sinclair Broadcast Group, announced a series of two, free webinars in March, focused on ATSC 3.0 datacasting.

As datacasting has advanced to a testing and development phase, these webinars will  introduce the organizations building the data networks and the entrepreneurs testing the specific business applications.

The webinars will be held Thursday, March 9 and Thursday, March 23 from 1-2:30p ET and will give voice to the forward-looking organizations creating regional and national ATSC 3.0 networks for hire, as well as the entrepreneurs looking to use spectrum from these networks.

Topics to be covered will include the following ATSC 3.0 datacasting applications:

  • CDN data delivery (ARK Multicast)
  • Enhanced geolocation (BitPath)
  • Data delivery to the edge (PEAK 3)
  • Wireless data transport for automotive and IOT (MOVE/Tata Communications)
  • Digital signage (USSI Global)
  • Public Safety/Emergency Alerting (The Corporation for Public Broadcasting)

Each webinar will include a one-hour presentation followed by 30 minutes of audience Q&A.

Webinar #1: Progress with ATSC 3.0 Spectrum Network Creators

Thursday March 9, 1-2:30 PM ET

For ATSC 3.0 datacasting to reach its full potential, broadcasters are collaborating to offer spectrum as data networks with regional or national coverage. There are initiatives to aggregate ATSC 3.0 spectrum from high power broadcasters, low power broadcasters, religious broadcasters, and public broadcasters. Attendees will hear from leaders representing all these organizations, learn the current state of ATSC 3.0 wireless data transport coverage, and hear first-hand from spectrum aggregators how they propose to work with clients to provide a more cost-effective delivery service.

Topics to be covered include:

  • A description and station count of the current aggregated networks and their plans to expand.
  • Who sells the aggregated spectrum, broadcaster, or aggregator?
  • How does ATSC 3.0 broadcast spectrum get networked, metered, and paid for?
  • How could the ATSC 3.0 datacasting model for public broadcasters work?
  • Is there a need to aggregate all the spectrum aggregators together?
  • Use of ATSC 3.0 spectrum to enhance CDN operations (ARK Multicast)
  • Use of ATSC 3.0 spectrum to enhance geolocation (BitPath)

Moderator:

Mark Aitken, President of ONE Media 3.0 and SVP Advanced Technology, Sinclair Broadcast Group

Speakers

  • John Hane, President of BitPath
  • Stacey Decker, Senior VP of Innovation and System Strategies, The Corporation for Public Broadcasting
  • Josh Weiss, CEO of ARK Multicast

Webinar #2: Meet the Entrepreneurial Organizations Looking to Incorporate ATSC 3.0 Spectrum into Systems

Thursday March 23, 1-2:30 PM ET

Across several industries, innovators are looking for more cost-effective ways to distribute wireless data. These entrepreneurs will share their unique visions and find commonalities and differences in their plans.

Topics to be covered  include:

  • What was the initial motivation to consider using ATSC 3.0 spectrum?
  • How will the overall systems work?
  • Will other wireless spectrum be used, such as 5G?
  • Will adding ATSC 3.0 spectrum add extra cost? If so, how will the cost be offset?
  • Wireless data transport for automotive and IOT (MOVE, Tata Communications)
  • Digital signage (USSI Global)
  • (Tentative) Public Safety/Emergency Alerting (Corporation for Public Broadcasting)

Moderator:

Skip Flenniken, VP & General Manager, Technology Business Development, Sinclair Broadcast Group

Speakers

  • Avneesh Prakash, VP Mobility and Head of MOVE, Tata Communications
  • Christopher McGhay, Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer, PEAK 3
  • Ted Korde, VP of Technology, USSI Global
