Once For Sale, A Dead Oregon FM Won’t Be Reanimated

As 2017 came to a close, RBR+TVBR reported on the availability for purchase of an FM radio station holding a Construction Permit for a Class C0 36.5kw facility licensed to Independence, Ore., but using a transmitter from high atop Bald Mountain effectively giving it coverage of Portland. Media Services Group was hired as Miller’s broker of record, with an asking price is $1.5 million.

However, the station was never sold. Then, complications arose preventing it from signing on at Bald Mountain. This resulted in a Petition to Deny a license renewal application for the station, based on information it had gathered confirming the FM was broadcasting from an unauthorized site. Other matters also transpired, leading the Commission to delete the station’s call letters and deny a license renewal.

The licensee, Yaquina Bay Communications, filed a Petition for Reconsideration. Al Shudiner, the Audio Division Chief, just said no to the company.
