Oh, Gee … A Licensee Shift That’s All In The Family

It’s another quiet day for TRANSACTIONS TODAY, with two STAs and a change in a station’s licensee to report.

In the latter situation, estate planning is shifting ownership of a Class C AM outside of Richmond, Va., from one entity to another.

The station is FOX Sports Radio affiliate WHAP-AM 1340 in Hopewell, Va., with a 1kw signal from 1 tower serving Chester, Hopewell and Petersburg, to the south of Richmond, where it has a weak signal.

An FM translator at 96.9 MHz is also used by WHAP, W245CU, with a signal contour matching its AM station.

According to a Form 314 filing made Monday (10/21), WHAP-AM is being transferred from WHAP, Inc. to Gee Communications Inc.

This entity sees Bruce Gee as the 49% shareholder, while David Gee is the 51% shareholder.

Bruce Gee is the sole owner of WHAP, Inc., and this change of licensee reflects an estate planning decision made between Bruce and David Gee.

Not involved is WSVS-AM and FM translator W246BZ in Crewe, Va., which is 49% controlled by Bruce Gee.

Because of WHAP’s signal contour, it is not marketed as a Richmond station.

A PAIR OF STAs

  • Blame it on “undiagnosed transmitter problems.” Abundant Life Ministry has asked for a silent STA for its WHMN-LPFM in Plymouth, Pa.
  • An STA request was submitted that would allow Crocodile Broadcasting Corp. to operate W234DH in Norco, La., with a substitute antenna while permanent facilities under its CP are completed. It updates Crocodile license application, which includes information mistakenly reflecting the completion of construction.
