In March 2018, the President of NIA Broadcasting acquired a Class B AM in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market from a company led by Bruce Maduri. It was the continuation of a relationship between Maduri and this broadcast industry owner that began in February 2017.
Now, Maduri and NIA are at it again, and it involves an FM translator associated with the AM dealt some eight months ago.
In an asset purchase agreement consummated November 8 and filed with the FCC on Wednesday, the Neal Ardman-led NIA is acquiring W270DU at 101.9 MHz in Tampa from Genesis Communications, the Maduri-helmed firm that sold WMGG-AM 1470 in Egypt Lake, Fla. to NIA in March 2018.
W270DU will rebroadcast WMGG, when constructed, and is licensed to use a facility to the immediate northeast of Tampa International Airport and west of Lowry Park.
The Form 345 filing indicates that NIA is paying Genesis $75,000 for the translator.
The filing fee will be split by buyer and seller; Ardman is reimbursing Maduri for a $835 Form 349 application fee.
NIA in February 2017 made headlines for partnering up with Genesis in its purchase of W248CA, a translator that moved to St. Petersburg from Bradenton, Fla., and now simulcasts News/Talk WWBA-AM 820 — home to the Bubba the Love Sponge syndicated morning show.
WMGG has a 2,800-watt daytime signal from 2 towers and an 800 watt nighttime signal from three towers. Its signal is largely concentrated on Hillsborough County and central Tampa.
