Users of the NextRadio app now have a little more content coming to their Android-powered smartphones while tuning in the local FM radio station of choice.

The app that activates the FM chip in just about every Android-powered head set, developed and distributed by Emmis Communications, now includes the appropriately named Newsfeed.

The Newsfeed delivers station-centric content to those tuned in via the app. Features include “trending Tweets” from the user’s favorite radio shows.

Users can also find artist and song facts, the day’s hottest song, and which artists are coming to town. They’ll also have the ability to buy concert tickets through Vivid Seats.

In the event of an important event or breaking news, NextRadio partnered with Global Security Systems to provide ALERT FM emergency messages to the Newsfeed.

NextRadio app users can opt-in to emergency alerts that will show up in their Newsfeed.

“Our partnership with NextRadio will allow us to expand our nationwide footprint in receiving emergency updates and increase our user base,” said Matthew Straeb, EVP and Chief Technology Officer of Global Security Systems.

NextRadio VP/Product Development Ben Husmann added, “We continually look for ways to help our broadcaster partners further integrate their programming into our mobile app. Newsfeed is a natural product evolution to create a more robust radio listening experience.”

NextRadio plans to utilize the Newsfeed feature as a tool to continually explore unique types of content tied to radio stations and their listeners.
