NEXTGEN ATSC 3.0 Broadcasting: A Big Lens At NAB Show

With next-generation television broadcasts now reaching nearly half the viewing public in the U.S. and recent international expansion of the technology into Jamaica, the future of broadcast and broadband delivery is a focal point of nearly every TV company from Kingston to Fairbanks.

As such, it’s likely no surprise that ATSC 3.0 and NEXTGEN TV will be under a big spotlight at the 2022 NAB Show, which opens April 23 in Las Vegas.

At the conference, the NEXTGEN TV technologies developed by Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) will perhaps get outsized attention. ATSC President Madeleine Norland is excited for what is set to take shape at the NAB Show.

“As the broadcasting industry makes plans to meet again at the NAB Show, we’re looking forward with great enthusiasm for the future of ATSC 3.0 – truly an international broadcasting standard that is now on-air in South Korea, Jamaica, and the U.S., with key ingredients of ATSC 3.0 also set for deployment in Brazil,” she says. “Broadcasters have spent the last two years laying the groundwork for the rapid expansion of ATSC 3.0 signals, which now reach nearly half of all U.S. viewers in almost 60 markets. Consumer TV receivers are now available in dozens of configurations, and we’re excited to see what’s next for accessory receivers and antenna products that will help even more consumers take advantage of next-generation broadcasting.”

For NAB Show attendees, the ATSC booth will include “extensive demonstrations” courtesy of India-based tech company Gaian Solutions, NEXTGEN TV consumer marketing arm Pearl TV, and Sinclair Broadcast Group, which has taken a lead role among broadcast TV companies in the voluntary rollout of ATSC 3.0 and NEXTGEN TV.

Additionally, NAB Show displays are planned by ATSC member organizations AWARN, CeWi, Fincons and Mediathand.

To help NAB Show attendees efficiently get all they need to know about ATSC 3.0, a “Guide to ATSC 3.0 at the Show” was produced. It details 38 exhibitors who plan on featuring ATSC 3.0 technology in their booths — including the ATSC booth itself that will anchor the Future of Delivery Pavilion in the new West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

ATSC’s “Full Steam Ahead” pavilion will be found at W9022 in West Hall.

Some 15 different NAB Show Conference sessions discussing all facets of ATSC 3.0 technology and deployment are also planned throughout the four-day NAB Show. Some 11 additional educational presentations are scheduled in the ATSC booth itself.

There’s more. In addition to these presentations, the ATSC booth will also be the site of industry receptions sponsored by Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, American Tower Corp., MadHive, and ATSC’s Brazil Implementation Team.
