Travel along Route 17, or Interstate 86, in New York’s Southern Tier, and you’ll pass through the Binghamton and Corning-Elmira markets.
Here, Nexstar Media Group has a presence. Now, the nation’s top broadcast TV station owner has a new leader overseeing its properties in each of these DMAs.
The new VP/GM for the Binghamton and “Twin Tiers” region is Tina Marie Castano. She arrives at Nexstar after previously serving in a similar role at WLNE-6 in Providence, now owned by Soohyung Kim‘s Standard Media.
The jump to Nexstar sees Castano gain oversight of its broadcast and digital operations in Binghamton (DMA #161) and nearby Elmira-Corning (DMA #178).
In Binghamton, Nexstar owns ABC affiliate WIVT-34 and low-power NBC affiliate WBGH, branded as “NBC 5” thanks to its dial position on Spectrum cable TV lineups in the market. To the west in Elmira-Corning, Nexstar owns NBC affiliate WETM-18.
The area isn’t unfamiliar to Castano, as she is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton.
During her tenure at WLNE, Castano launched a 4pm weekday newscast and led the redesign of the station’s website. She came on board in 2017, following a decade as VP/GM of the CW affiliate serving Providence, WLWC-TV.
Castano led that station through multiple ownership changes, including the years when WLWC-TV was managed by Nexstar.
