Newt Gingrich will make first appearance as candidate on Fox

His likely entry into the Republican presidential primary race resulted in Newt Gingrich’s exit as a commentator on Fox News Network, along with fellow likely candidate Rick Santorum. But Gingrich is heading right back to FNC, and this time it will be as a candidate.

Gingrich spokesperson Rick Tyler has confirmed that the official candidacy announcement will be coming on Wednesday. According to Tyler, the first official word will be delivered on Facebook and Twitter.

Later on Wednesday 5/11/11, Gingrich is to appear on FNC with Sean Hannity for his first interview as an official candidate.

The Georgia Republican is appearing at the station’s GOP convention on Friday 5/13/11.

FNC had five commentators that were frequently mentioned as possible candidates, and of that group, the news net decided that Santorum and Gingrich were obvious enough about it that they were suspended from the air, and eventually let go last week.

Still on board at FNC from the group are Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee and John Bolton.
