News sharing in DC

The NBC/Fox local news video sharing arrangement in Washington, DC has expanded. It’s now a threesome.

NBC Local Media and the Fox Television Stations announced last November that they would be sharing commodity news footage in all markets where they both have O&O stations, so NBC’s WRC-TV and Fox’s WTTG-TV have been sharing the cost of a helicopter and pooling some video since January.

Now, Gannett’s WUSA-TV (CBS) is joining the cost-saving effort. Effective next month, each of the three stations will contribute two photographers to a cooperative venture, to be called Local News Service. It will provide video of news conferences and other news events to all three stations for use in their newscasts.
