It’s a Class C3 FM that once had “Hot” branding, hence its call letters. Today, the station is known for providing hip-hop programming to Arkansas’ largest market.
Soon, it will be known for its new owner, too.
KHTE-FM 96.5, which serves Little Rock from England, Ark., to the south of the metropolitan area, is being sold to Bradford Media Group by Crain Media Group.
A $1.2 million purchase price has been agreed upon; a $30,000 deposit has been made and is being held in escrow by John C. Trent.
The remainder will be paid in cash at closing.
The deal sees Larry Crain spin “The Box” to an entity led by Alfred Bradford IV.
The station has been a Hip-Hop and R&B station competing against long-established KIPR-FM since August 2018. That’s not likely to change once the shift in ownership is complete.
Prior to the launch of “The Box,” Salem Media Group operated KHTE via an LMA with Crain. During that period, it was Talk “The Answer.” From May 2000 through the end of 2012, it was a rhythmic Top 40 station.
