The Media Bureau has announced a filing window for new noncommercial educational television stations. In doing so, it offered a full run-down of the FCC’s filing procedures and requirements, including exactly where these future stations can be built.

In a public notice, the Commission provided full details on what is to be expected in an upcoming filing window for applications for new noncommercial educational television station construction permits.

The window will open at 12:01am Eastern on December 4 and close on December 11 at 6pm Eastern.

The window is available for the locations and reserved noncommercial educational channels in the following locales:

With the noncommercial educational TV filing window coming soon, the FCC has put an immediate freeze on petitions to amend the Table to allot new reserved noncommercial educational channels to specific communities.

In addition, as of 12:01am on December 3 the FCC will not accept rulemaking petitions for full power television stations to change channel, nor will it accept minor and major change applications for full power and Class A television stations.

These freezes will continue through the close of the NCETV Filing Window.

Applications for construction permits for new NCETV stations must be filed electronically on the FCC Form 2100, Schedule A-340, in the FCC’s Licensing and Management System (LMS).
