A popular member of an iHeartMedia syndicated morning show superserving African American listeners will be heading to Detroit for a one-on-one interview with Vice President Kamala Harris — a chat that will be shared by iHeartMedia to potential voters across the U.S.
That’s according to Charlamagne Tha God, one of a trio of personalities that comprise The Breakfast Club, based at WWPR “Power 105.1” in New York and heard on stations including WJLB-FM in Detroit.
Addressing the show’s Motor City audience, Charlamagne said on Friday’s program that he will be in Detroit on October 15 for a live conversation with the Democratic nominee for President. It can be accessed via the iHeartRadio app, which has a “Talk Back” feature in which Charlamagne Tha God asked listeners to submit questions for the Tuesday discussion.
“You know our listeners are very passionate,” Charlamagne Tha God said. “I want local voices from Detroit, and I want voices from all the battleground states, to get the opportunity to ask [Harris] questions. I know we have some pressing issues to talk about.”
We The People: A Conversation With Kamala Harris and Charlamagne The God will air on 5pm Eastern on all stations that carry The Breakfast Club.
Harris’ visit comes after a speech from former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, in which he offered negative commentary while in Detroit about the city, warning voters that if they were to vote for Harris, the nation would end up like Detroit.
The City of Detroit has experienced a significant renaissance in recent years, with a renovation of the Cadillac Book hotel and the reopening of Michigan Central Station heralded. Playoff performance by the Detroit Tigers and a spirited Detroit Lions NFL team have also made Detroit a sports city in the midst of renaissance.
