A deal involving one up and running FM, four FM CPs and five sellers has been filed with the FCC, resulting in what will be a new regional radio group once everything is built.
The buyer is Big Radio Pro Inc., headed by President Jesse Portillo.
The price is $2,700,000 cash. The contract does not get into how the money will be divided among the sellers.
The stations being sold include:
* KZPO-FM Lindsay CA, coming from the Estate of Linda Ware, Cynthia Ramage, Executor. It’s the lone operating station, a Class B1 on 103.3 MHz with 280 W @ 2,625’. The signal is located to the east of the two cities, which are within the western edge of the station’s primary contour.
* KNGS-FM CP Coalinga CA, coming from William L. Zawilla. It’s a Class B on 100.1 MHz with 19 kW @ 794’. The signal is basically the opposite that of KZPO, centered to the west of Visalia-Tulare and just reaching the cities.
* KZPE-FM CP Ford City CA, coming from .L. Charles d/b/a Ford City Broadcasting. It’s a Class A on 102.1 MHz with 6 kW @ 128’ serving Bakersfield CA. It ets to the city from a west-side orientation.
* KAAX-FM CP Avenal CA, coming from Avenal Educational Services Inc. The station is a Class A on 95.1 MHz with 920 W @ 656’. It’s located in unrated territory to the west of Visalia-Tulare.
* KYAF-FM CP Firebaugh CA, coming from is Central Valley Educational Services Inc. It’s a Class A on 94.7 MHz with 900 W @ 66’. The station is to the west and out of range of Modesto CA.
Attached to the KZPO-FM application was an explanation couching the deal as a distress sale to Big Pro, which was identified as an eligible entity. It suggested the deal should be approved in light of the FCC’s stated goal of increasing diversity among FCC station licensees. Big Pro was said to be an eligible entity on grounds that it earns less than $6.5M in annual revenue.
