Nardi To Lead Nexstar’s Station Operations

The nation’s single-biggest owner of broadcast television stations, which controls WGN Radio, NewsNation and The CW Network, has appointed an individual with experience at TEGNA, Dejero and WRC-4 in Washington who will be tasked with overseeing the day-to-day broadcast operations of its O&Os and TV properties operated via shared services agreements.

Taking the role of VP of Station Operations for Nexstar Media Group is Bill Nardi.

In addition to directing the technical output of the company’s TV stations, Nardi will assist with projects supporting The CW Network, NewsNation, and digital multicast networks Antenna TV and Rewind TV.

Nardi succeeds Mark Turner, who is retiring from Nexstar on July 1. This concludes a distinguished career of more than 35 years in broadcast television operations.

Nardi will begin his new duties on Monday (5/12) and reports to Blake Russell, Nexstar’s Executive Vice President of Operations. “Mark’s contributions to Nexstar over the years cannot be overstated,” Russell said. “He was instrumental in the technical development, construction and roll out of NewsNation, as well as the hub for our Washington, D.C., bureau — including NewsNation, The Hill, and our local stations in the nation’s capital. He has helped flawlessly execute the expansion of Nexstar’s station group and broadcast operating centers and consistently delivered projects on time and on budget. We will miss Mark.”

Nardi knows a thing or two about Washington. He’s inbound from Northern Virginia-headquartered and Rosslyn-founded TEGNA, the company formerly known as Gannett. There, he served as VP of Station Operations, directing the technical needs and engineering for the company’s 64 television stations and its streaming platforms. Nardi also helped build and lead the physical safety and security program for the company, including the creation of a variety of disaster recovery plans.

“I’m looking forward to joining a company that is on the cutting edge of developing and utilizing new broadcast and digital technology to improve operations and enhance the viewing experience across its local TV stations, national networks, and online platforms,” said Nardi, who will be based at the Nexstar corporate headquarters in Irving, Tex. “Mark Turner has left me with some big shoes to fill, and I am grateful for the opportunity to succeed him.”

Prior to his work with TEGNA, Nardi was based in the Waterloo Region of Ontario between Toronto and “cottage country” and served as Vice President of Broadcast Operations and Global Support for Dejero Labs. There, he oversaw sales support, technical operations, and product development and integration. But, before that, Nardi spent eight years on Wisconsin Avenue as Director of Technology and Broadcast Operations for NBCUniversal O&O WRC-4 in Washington, D.C.

“Bill is the ideal candidate to succeed Mark and will build upon everything he has done for Nexstar,” said Russell. “Bill is talented, innovative, and tremendously experienced in managing large-scale broadcast operations, coordinating and executing live coverage of major news and sporting events, and working with national television networks.”
