In an unusual move, NAB is seeking documents from the FCC related to the media ownership rules. Specifically, has filed a Freedom of Information Act request.
The broadcast trade lobby has asked for studies, reports, articles, presentations, data, surveys and Internet sources the Media Bureau used in drafting the latest media ownership proposal.
NAB was shocked the chairman’s draft circulated this week contained so few changes, and would basically leave intact the television, radio and cross-ownership limits.
NAB has also asked for information related to “drafting policy recommendations” except for those protected by law, like internal recommendations.
In the request, General Counsel and EVP Legal & Regulatory Affairs Rick Kaplan tells the commission he’s willing to pay up to $2,500 upfront for the information.
