AMSTERDAM — One year after introducing its cloudSwXtch virtual overlay network to the industry at IBC, swXtch.io this year came to demonstrate how it has added several key enhancements to the product that are designed to improve performance and support new applications.

These enhancements from swXtch.io, a wholly-owned subsidiary of IEX Group, include newly forged relationships with all major public cloud network providers, making it immediately deployable on AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Marketplaces.

Additionally, swXtch.io has added Lossless UDP for additional protection of media streams across dynamic bridging (ground-to-cloud, cloud-to-ground) and multi-cloud networking applications. Lossless UDP optimizes packet delivery for high-bandwidth streams with minimal latency for dynamic ground-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground bridging, and without reliance on proprietary protocols or hardware components.

There’s also added functionality, as swXtch.io demonstrated its deployment of Tachyon LIVE and Tachyon Transcode for the first time, powered by Cinnafilm’s Tachyon technology. Tachyon LIVE brings broadcast-quality standards conversion to the cloud, including frame rate conversions, deinterlacing, scaling, and motion compensation for IP-based live video streams to cloudSwXtch users. Running as a feature on cloudSwXtch allows Tachyon LIVE immediate access to media packets, increasing the performance of the network.

IBC also saw swXtch.io demonstrate its deployment of Timebeat’s Precision Time Protocol (PTP) into cloudSwXtch. Used extensively in on-prem systems today, Timebeat’s PTP Squared technology allows systems that rely on multicast to achieve the high level of synchronization required to move to the cloud. This ensures that data is received and processed in the correct order during migration to the cloud, aligning synchronization capabilities in the cloud with on-premises networks.

Geeter Kyrazis, swXtch.io’s Chief Strategy Officer, was present in Amsterdam, and participated in an IBC2023 Partner Sessions panel sponsored by SMPTE, “Architecting Multi-Cloud and On-Prem Workflows Solutions for Global Production Needs.”

The conversation’s focus was on enabling workflows in multi-cloud environments. Kyrazis in particular spoke during the Sunday morning session on how optimizing inter-cloud network communication and normalizing cloud network behaviors is critical to bringing on-premises systems and cloud networks together while also transcending the individual capabilities of each cloud provider.
