A contemporary R&B and hip-hop station superserving African-American audiences in one of Alabama’s biggest cities is being sold, paperwork submitted to the FCC for its regulatory approval has revealed.
What does this mean for the station that “JAMZ”?
Many could be asking this, as Bluewater Broadcasting is agreeing to sell WJWZ-FM 97.9 in Wetumpka, Ala., to Autaugaville Radio Inc. for $1 million.
A $100,000 escrow deposit has been made, with the remainder paid in cash at closing.
This puts WJWZ in the hands of Roscoe Miller, and it is a move that likely reinforces WJWZ’s current format and battle against iHeartMedia’s market-leading WZHT. WJWZ would become a sibling to “The Big KD” — WZKD-AM 950 and W231DF at 94.1 MHz — as well as a Regional Mexican FM and Hip-Hop simulcast partners WKXN-FM 95.7 and WKXK-FM 96.7.
Serving as the buyer’s legal counsel is Cary Tepper of Tepper Law Firm.
