WASHINGTON, D.C. — One of the FCC’s biggest champions for the radio industry, forced to exit over a Section 230 disagreement with soon-to-depart President Donald Trump, has resurfaced as a visiting fellow at a Washington think tank.
He’ll be working alongside another former Commissioner — someone who served on the FCC from 1997-2001.
Mike O’Rielly will now be associated with the Hudson Institute, as he is joining its Center for the Economics of the Internet as a visiting fellow.
“We are pleased to have an individual with Commissioner O’Rielly’s experience and insights join Hudson,” said Harold Furchtgott-Roth, a senior fellow at Hudson.
If that name rings a bell, it is because he is also a former Commissioner, having exited 20 years ago after one term.
“I’m grateful to Dr. Furchtgott-Roth and Hudson Institute for the opportunity to continue pursuing work that helps shape sound telecommunications and technology policy through the center,” O’Rielly said.
Before joining the FCC in 2013, O’Rielly served as a policy advisor in the U.S. Senate’s Republican Whip Office. He’d been on Capitol Hill since 1993, shifting from the House side to the upper body of Congress in 2003.
