MediaCo Holding Inc.‘s two iconic New York radio brands, acquired from Emmis, are getting some more national exposure — thanks to their placement on digital multicast signals aligned with FMs in two California markets, and in two Texas locales.
CEO Albert Rodriguez shares that WQHT “Hot 97″‘s Hip-Hop presentation and that of Adult R&B WBLS in New York will now be heard on HD2 signals for stations serving Los Angeles, Riverside-San Bernardino, Dallas and Houston.
MediaCo did not specify the stations in an announcement made on Thursday, as the publicly traded company that owns Estrella Media says the “exciting expansion marks a major step in MediaCo’s mission to connect multicultural audiences nationwide through music, entertainment, and culture.”
Rodriguez commented, “HOT 97 and WBLS are more than radio stations, they’re cultural movements. Bringing these brands to Dot 2 audio in Los Angeles, Riverside, Dallas, and Houston allows us to deepen our connection with audiences who have influenced and amplified urban music and culture for decades. This is where East Coast energy meets the creativity and diversity of these vibrant cities.”
Kudjo Sogadzi, EVP of Content & Growth at MediaCo, added, “Dot 2 provides the perfect platform for us to expand MediaCo’s audio footprint and give listeners nonstop access to two of the most trusted and influential brands in music.”
The new Dot 2 audio channels will launch on December 1.
