Media companies kicking the tires at Newsweek

The Washington Post yard sale, in which its venerable but infirm iconic magazine Newsweek is the featured item, is attracting the attention of other media companies, according to Politico, which ought to know since its parent company Allbritton is one of them.


Allbritton has a multi-level presence in WaPo’s hometown, with ABC WJLA-TV and cable service News Channel 8 in addition to Politico, a Capitol Hill newspaper.

Also said to be giving the property a look is Thompson Reuters.

Politico says that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. gave it a look but is already saying it’s not interested.

It’s also been reported that editor Jon Meacham is considering an effort to put together an investment group to acquire the property.
