Luis Jimenez will return, says producer

Luis JimenezThe very popular Univision host disappeared from the air at WXNY-FM NYC last week, though the station isn’t saying why. But Jimenez will be back soon, his producer promises.

Jimenez abruptly disappeared last week from WXNY, where he had hosted mornings since 2008. We got a lot of negative comments over his departure.

The station confirmed his departure, but has had no further comment. There has been speculation about graphic content, which has always been part of Jimenez’s show, and about whether parent Univision wants to cut costs in anticipation of a sale it has been pursuing, reports The NY Daily News.

Jimenez’s show was replaced with a music-intense format in the morning.

Maria Alma, Jimenez’s longtime producer, said Jimenez can’t comment on the situation, but that the show “will be back soon on another media outlet.”

His co-host Carolina Cadillo had posted a message on Facebook saying, “The best is yet to come.”

Fans have been wondering on social media whether Jimenez could return to crosstown SBS’s WSKQ, where he co-hosted the morning show “El Vacilón de la Mañana” until 2007.

RBR-TVBR observation: Univision is reportedly for sale. Jimenez’s contract was likely not being renewed because it could hinder negotiations.
