Crown Media Family Networks may not be a wholly familiar name to broadcast TV executives, but they’re certainly familiar with the three MVPD-distributed networks housed under this Los Angeles-based entity.

That’s because Crown Media is a subsidiary of Hallmark, and its three Hallmark-branded linear networks remain big draws.

Now running the networks: The former President/CEO of Public Broadcasting Atlanta.

But, you likely remember her as the ex-President/CEO of TV One.

Now President/CEO of Crown Media Family Networks, which oversees all aspects of the Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and Hallmark Drama networks, is Wonya Lucas.

She reports directly to Hallmark Cards Inc. CEO Mike Perry, and is charged with “accelerating the mission and growth of the iconic television brand.”

This includes directing all Crown Media Family Networks digital platforms as well as the company’s subscription streaming service, Hallmark Movies Now.

“Wonya is a brand builder at her core who shares Hallmark’s beliefs and values,” Perry said. “She has a deep understanding of the role our brand plays in fulfilling a bigger purpose in people’s lives. After a thorough search process, we found a remarkable leader with proven general management skills, as well as a track record of success in driving business results and evolving the positioning and programming of a brand.”

Lucas led Public Broadcasting Atlanta since April 2015, capping a career that includes roles as Discovery Channel COO and, from 2002-2008, EVP/GM of The Weather Channel. Notably, she served as President/CEO of TV One — the MVPD-distributed cable channel owned by Urban One — from 2011-2013.

In March 2019, Lucas was nominated for a seat on the E.W. Scripps Co. board of directors. Lucas already served as a director at JCPenney.

“Hallmark has been central to my life since I can remember, starting with those Hallmark Hall of Fame movies that were as enriching as they were entertaining,” Lucas said. “In some ways, my entire career has led me to this incredible opportunity to use the breadth of my experience and skills to evolve an iconic and beloved brand, a culture and a business. I am honored to link arms with the multi-talented leaders and their teams at Crown to build toward an exciting future.”
