In a deal brokered by Kalil & Co., Long Communications LLC on April 24 closed on its sale of a UHF television station within the Charlotte DMA to Family Worship Center Church, the Louisiana-based Ministry headed by the famed Rev. Jimmy Swaggart.

At the time, the Long family confirmed its AM radio station and companion FM translator would see no changes. That’s not entirely true: the station is being sold, but to family members.

WHKY-AM 1290 and its FM translator W272DU at 102.3 MHz in Hickory, N.C., which offer “TalkRadio for the Greater Hickory Metro,” is being transferred by Long Communications LLC to the newly created WHKY LLC.

With Joe Chautin III of Hardy, Carey, Chautin & Balkin serving as legal counsel, Thomas E. Long Jr. is taking a 42% stake in WHKY LLC, as is Roberta S. Long. Eight percent stakes in the LLC are being held by Charles and Christopher Long, respectively,

The station’s signal covers an area to the northwest of Charlotte and does not reach the metro area of the state’s biggest city.

WHKY-TV, which signed on the air in February 1968, was sold for $12 million.
