David Letterman returned from vacation Monday (8/22) as the FBI and other authorities investigated a death threat against the CBS “Late Show” host posted on al-Qaeda-related website. But Letterman didn’t hesitate to make jokes about the threat.

In his opening monologue Letterman joked that the audience was serving as a “human shield” and that he’d checked with CBS to see if his life insurance covered jihad.

The late night host joked that it wasn’t the first time that someone had wanted to cut his tongue out. And as Letterman commented on the investigation into who was threatening him he blurted out that “everyone knows it’s [Jay] Leno.”
