Late night viewing: ‘Conan O’Brien’ tops all in 18-49 demo

Face it the young demo likes the young style of O’Brien and his latest act before booking out the NBC doors has helped the ratings.


NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” has topped all broadcast and cable competition in the key late-night demographic of adults 18-49 for the week of January 11-15.  At 12:35 a.m. ET, “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” also delivered bigger 18-49 audiences than any cable or broadcast competition in the time period.

The week also saw Conan deliver bigger audiences than CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman” and the ABC lineup of “Nightline” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in adults, men and women 18-34, men and women 18-49 and adults and men 25-54.  Jimmy Fallon out-delivered CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and “Kimmel” in adults, men and women 18-34; men 18-49; and adults and men 25-54.

In total viewers, it was “Tonight’s” biggest audience since the week of June 22-26 and in 18-49 viewers, it was the largest “Tonight” viewership since June 8-12.  “Late Night” delivered its biggest overall audience in 17 weeks (since the week of September 14-18) and biggest 18-49 audience in 13 weeks (since October 12-16).

For the week of January 11-15, Conan’s average 1.900 million adults 18-49 topped the 1.345 million of Letterman; in total viewers, Conan’s audience of 3.492 million persons trailed Letterman’s 4.487million; and in adults 18-34, Conan’s 948,000 out-scored Letterman’s 430,000.  At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon’s 885,000 adults 18-49 for the week out-delivered Ferguson’s 825,000; in total viewers, Jimmy’s 1.564 million trailed Ferguson’s 2.096 million; and in adults 18-34, Jimmy’s 482,000 topped Ferguson’s 328,000.
