LOS ANGELES — The “Sage from South Central” has uttered his final words on the Salem Radio Network, and will no longer be heard in the 3-6pm Pacific time slot on any Salem Media Group radio property, or any affiliates his program was heard on.
Could another run in a California gubernatorial race be in Larry Elder‘s future?
That is a question some may be pondering, as Elder has seemingly abruptly departed the company that has been his home for some six years — even when he took a sabbatical to run for Governor of the Golden State in its 2021 recall election.
No reason was given by Phil Boyce, Salem SVP of Spoken Word, who confirmed that he won’t be appearing today or any forthcoming day on the network. “Larry is an icon as a radio talk show host and is a powerful voice as a leading black conservative, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” Boyce said. “I hope there will be future opportunities for us to work together.”
Boyce added that the departure “completely 100% Larry’s decision.” In fact, Salem continues to be a major platform for Elder’s documentaries such as “Uncle Tom,” released two years ago, and will be providing a platform for the sequel “Uncle Tom 2,” due later in 2-2022. SalemNow.Com will host the movie, as it did in the past.
Salem first needed to seek a replacement for Elder for three months in 2021, when he took a 90-day leave of absence to seek the role of governor in the recall election, which incumbent Gavin Newsom won.
With Elder away on the campaign trail, Salem turned to WORL-AM in Orlando host Carl Jackson, as a “substitute” for Elder. He’s back in the fill-in chair and will stay there until Salem is ready to announce a permanent replacement.
“It was an honor for me to sit in Larry’s chair last summer for a few months, and it will be another honor to continue his tradition on the radio now,” said Jackson, who will host the show from Orlando.
