A Colorado FM Is Sued By BMI For Unpaid Royalty Fees

0

It’s a Class C0 100kw FM serving Grand Junction, Colo., and rural Eastern Utah with Alternative Rock music led by co-owner and Program Director Larry Grant.

Grant, through his Get Smashed Radio Broadcasting Network, agreed to purchase the station with 50/50 partner Kasisi Harris in December 2020 in a $225,000 transaction with Charles D. Hall.

Now, some 2 1/2 years later, Harris and Grant have found themselves in a potential legal battle that’s not too dissimilar to a matter involving Ed Stolz, the embattled former licensee of three FM radio stations on the West Coast. Despite repeated warnings, Get Smashed’s KMZK-FM has allegedly continued to play songs without paying music royalty fees to such groups as Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI).

Now, Get Smashed is being sued by the music industry groups.
