The company behind the ATSC 3.0-powered application that turns a digital broadcast signal’s interface into one akin to an app on a smart TV or phone has appointed a Chief Executive Officer, and an individual who will serve as its Chief Technology Officer.

Run3TV will now be led by media industry veterans Michael Collette as Chief Executive Officer and Tom Weiss as Chief Technology Officer.

“We are thrilled to welcome Michael and Tom to the Run3TV team,” said Pat LaPlatney, Co-CEO of Gray Television, which is directing the launch and distribution of Run3TV. “Their expertise and leadership are invaluable as we continue to demonstrate our commitment and momentum in enhancing the television viewing experience. At Gray, we believe in bringing more relevant news, weather, and sports content to consumers, tailored to their preferences. The combination of broadcast and broadband through hybrid television marks a significant step forward in achieving this goal.”

As demonstrated across the last two NAB Shows, Run3TV provides an application framework that enables broadcasters and their developers to build and deploy standards-compliant apps that run on various TV chipsets and operating systems.  At present, Run3TV powers nearly 200 applications in broadcast markets throughout the U.S. and the application framework is available on more than 13 million certified NEXTGEN TV sets from Hisense, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony, and TCL as well as NEXTGEN TV certified upgrade accessory receivers from ADTH and Zinwell.

Collette will be charged with guiding Run3TV as it expands its footprint in the broadcasting industry.  He held leadership positions at Inscape, Dativa, TVScientific, OpenTV, Active Video, Ucentric Systems, and PhyFlex Networks.

“Our Run3TV platform not only allows broadcasters to extend viewing time and drive streaming video consumption of local content, but it also opens up new opportunities for interactive and addressable advertising,” Collette said. “As the industry evolves towards a data-driven landscape, Run3TV is at the forefront, aligning with the new currency movement that emphasizes the integration of unified linear and streaming data.”

Weiss, a former Chief Data Scientist at Inscape, Dativa, and Marketcast, will focus on enhancing Run3TV’s cutting-edge application framework, which enables broadcasters to build applications that run seamlessly on all connected TV devices that have been certified for NEXTGEN TV, Gray said.
