There’s no confirmation yet from the NFL or the singer’s publicity team, but the Associated Press reports that Kelly Clarkson will sing the “Star Spangled Banner” at the February 5th Super Bowl in Indianapolis. Madonna was previously announced as the star of the half-time show for the game, which will be broadcast on NBC.
Clarkson will no doubt want to be sure she’s got the words to the anthem committed firmly to memory. Christina Aguilera got plenty of unwanted publicity last year for flubbing the lyrics.
As the first winner of “American Idol” a decade ago, Clarkson went on to sell over 20 million albums worldwide.
Also, as part of the pregame festivities, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton will sing “America the Beautiful.”
