Dubbed Tucson’s Old School station, Journal Broadcast Group launched KTGV-FM “The Groove” 10/24 as a Rhythmic AC with emphasis on the hits of the ’80s and ’70s with complimentary hits from Motown and the ’90s. The station switches from Urban Oldies KGMG (Mega 106.3).

Old School artists include Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Boyz II Men, Kool & the Gang, Earth, Wind & Fire and the Supremes.

The Groove is more listener-focused and interactive through constant social networking, online and contesting. Journal also invested in signal and tower improvements to better cover the market. The station will be music intensive and offer daily “on-the-street” appointments. It will also feature short local morning elements of news “quick hits,” traffic and weather as well as traffic and weather in the afternoons between 3:00 and 6:00.

“The Groove name really stuck as we talked with listeners to find out what they wanted in a station. They kept talking about hearing their favorite artists with a rhythmic feel, or groove, and we’re happy to be able to provide it,” said Shaun Holly, radio ops manager for Journal Broadcast Group.
