The Labor Department reported a decline in first time jobless claims, which lifted Wall Street expectations for Friday morning’s monthly employment report. Broadcasting stocks also got a boost from major retailers reporting increased sales. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 47 points, or 0.5%, to 10,444. The day’s big gainer among broadcasting stocks was Westwood One, shooting up nearly 42% in a late session surge. There was no news to account for the move.
The RBR Radio Index was up 18.785, or 8.3%, to 244.379.
The TVBR Television Index was up 4.038, or 2.7%, to 151.955.
