A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday, despite record-setting haze and smoke from Nova Scotia wildfires that temporarily closed LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport, for the opening of a Univision-branded store located in Terminal 5 of John F. Kennedy International Airport.

As JFK is located on the southern shore of Long Island, operations were able to continue as weather concerns were slightly better than across other parts of the New York Tri-State area.

With the introduction of the JFK store, there are now 8 Univision-branded stores from Paradies Lagardere, and it joins three at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, two at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, and one each at the Los Angeles International Airport and Fort-Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport.

Interestingly, there is none at Miami International Airport at this time.

With more than 10 million passengers passing through annually, JFK’s Terminal 5 will serve as the new home for a retail establishment featuring “snacks and beverages that represent Latin America,” as well as basic travel essentials. Each location features Univision programming in Spanish throughout the day on large television screens, including Noticiero Univision, the network’s newscast.
