From 1996 through July 2018, Larry Jennings was a successful radio sales professional, serving in GSM roles and for 2 1/2 years as Director of Development for Clark University’s non-commercial Jazz station serving Atlanta.
Now, he’s heading to Birmingham to go work for Carl Parmer.
Jennings has accepted the General Sales Manager role for three stations targeting African American consumers in SummitMedia‘s home market of Birmingham.
He reports to Market President John Walker, and will oversee all sales efforts for WBHK-FM “98.7 KISS FM”, WBHJ-FM “95.7 JAMZ” and WAGG-AM “Heaven 610.”
“Larry is exactly the professional we were looking for to lead our outstanding team,” said Walker. “He has a proven track record of team building, talent development, client relations, community involvement, and revenue performance.”
Jennings added, “I’m grateful and excited about the opportunity to join SummitMedia and this amazing Birmingham team. It’s an incredible time to be in radio and I look forward to partnering with our local sales team to develop creative solutions that bring our clients into even closer relationship with Birmingham’s African-American consumer market!”
Jennings most recently served as Director of Corporate Partnerships for Atlanta-based Davis Broadcasting.
Before joining Clark-run WCLK-FM 91.9 in Atlanta, he served as GSM of Radio One’s Atlanta stations WHTA-FM & WJZZ-FM.
Prior to that, Jennings had a hand in launching Q100 as a CHR/Pop station serving Atlanta on 100.5 MHz, with WWWQ’s early 2000s debut. He was GSM under Susquehanna Radio for Q100, and joined the station in April 2001 after a 2 1/2 year stint as GSM for WDAS-FM in Philadelphia.
From April 1996-September 1998, Jennings was in Charlotte, serving as GSM and Director of Urban Sales for CBS Radio’s stations in the Queen City.
SummitMedia is led by CEO Parmer, with controlling interest held by Jon Kelly as of 2017.
