It’s the Truth: Mark Janbakhsh Sells More In N.C.

The founder and chief executive officer of America’s United Financial Partnerships and the Auto Masters Automobile Dealership Group, located in Middle Tennessee, considers himself to be an accomplished entrepreneur.

Among the businesses he’s controlled is a company owning Spanish-language radio stations that were once a part of the now-defunct Davidson Media Group, led by Chris McMurray.

However, radio hasn’t been so kind to Mark Janbakhsh. Earlier this month, he divested properties in one North Carolina market. Now, he’s done so in the Triangle region.

On December 7, RBR+TVBR reported on the sale of WWBG-AM 1470 in Greensboro to Twin City Broadcasting Co. by the Janbakhsh-led TBLC Media LLC, which acquired former Davidson Media properties in a host of markets in July 2015.

Now, TBLC is selling WTIK-AM 1310 in Durham, N.C. and WRJD-AM 1410 in Durham to Truth Broadcasting Corp.

That’s the Winston Salem-based broadcasting company led by Stuart Epperson Jr. which is closely tied to, but in no way owned or operated by, Salem Media Group.

WTIK and WRJD maintain separate studios. WRJD in recently years has aired a Spanish-language religious format, and spent some time as an ESPN Deportes Radio affiliate. In the 2000s, it was a Black Gospel station as “Rejoice 1410.” But, from 1954 until the mid-1980s, the frequency was home to WSRC, a premiere R&B station of the times.

WRJD is a Class B, as is WTIK, which broadcasts a regional Mexican format as “La Mega.”

Truth is paying $200,000 to TBLC for the pair of AMs, with a $10,000 deposit made to the licensee. Fowler Media Consulting is the escrow agent.

Fowler, in partnership with Mark Jorgenson’s Jorgenson Media Brokerage, were the co-brokers, representing TBLC. Each are receiving $5,000 for their services.
