Is Dish Drain Coming For Warren Buffett’s Lone TV Station?

FORT LAUDERDALE — The ABC affiliate serving Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties, the only television station licensed to the Warren Buffett-owned BH Media, is warning viewers that it could suddenly go dark on Dish within hours.

WPLG-10, which has consistently been a ratings leader across South Florida, could be blocked to customers reliant on the DBS service for access to ABC network programming, “LOCAL 10” news and public affairs shows, and syndicated Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy in the 7pm hour.

And, that’s precise when Dish could drop WPLG, as the station has shared it is deadlocked on a retransmission consent agreement with the direct broadcast satellite company that could soon be merged with DirecTV.

In a statement posted to the WPLG website earlier this week, the station said, “We have been negotiating in good faith with Dish Network, but have not been able to reach a fair and reasonable agreement for retransmission of our programming.”

WPLG added that Dish “makes money off of our programming because they charge you for it, so when Local 10 is removed from the Dish Network systems, you are not getting what you pay for.”

RBR+TVBR has reached out to Dish for comment.
